Hood River Writer’s Studio

Sitting above the fertile Hood River Valley, the Writer’s Studio is cradled in ancient basalt stone and conifers. The design for the site embraces the landscape; weaving paths, native meadows, outdoor rooms and gardens throughout the impressive drifts of volcanic stone.  Traditional outdoor spaces were reimagined using endemic materials;  a children’s play area is framed by native meadow plantings, a patio and fire pit are carved from onsite stone and softened by native ferns; and a lawn is made up of drought tolerant grasses nestled within a colorful alpine meadow.

The design for Hood River Writer’s Studio marries the inherent beauty of the landscape with the rustic nature of the architecture, creating a scenic place for family respite, play and exploration.
